Since sources of conflict depend on the phase of the project life cycle (define, plan, execute, and deliver), what are some sources of the conflict for each phase and what the effect (if any) do either of the team development models have on the conflict?
In order to cope up with the huge competitive market, organizations find projects as a source of improvement in the business. When a project starts to occur, there is a high chance that there would be conflicts in every stages of the project life cycle. The most common type of conflicts which arise during a project life cycle is the interpersonal conflict, which basically occurs due to lack of proper leadership and management.
a) Initiation phase -
In the first phase, the sources of conflicts may be arise as some may protest regarding starting of the project. Sometimes stakeholders may feel that a certain project may not be needed. This may raise in conflict. When setting the project goals, team members and stakeholders may involve in conflicts regarding the allocated funds.
b) Planning phase -
During this phase, project team members may involve in conflicts due to scarcity of resources or may feel that they need different resources for the project continuation. Sometimes stakeholders frequently change the project requirements which lead to have conflicts. The decision making process too can be a good source of conflicts.
c) Execution phase -
In this phase, conflicts may raise from risk management section and most of the conflicts occurred are the administration conflicts. Team members may raise conflicts due to the role of reporting authorities. Besides, problems like complexities in tasks and processes, decision making issues etc. may lead to have conflicts in this phase.
d) Closing phase -
In this closing phase, only goal-oriented conflicts may occur such as problems due to final submission of the projects or the consequences and outcome of the project lead to have conflicts among team members and stakeholders. Sources of conflicts can also be due the variation in the performance of the project team members.
