In a public corporation, the ownership is usually shared amongst the general public by dividing it into multiple shares of stocks that are traded freely in the stock market.
The major objective of a public corporation is profit generation. The rise in profits generated result in growth of the company which improves the position of the company in the share market. Hence, a better performing company will always have a greater worth in the stock market. The Public corporation trades in goods and services to generate revenue and earn profits.
The major shareholders are the general public and hence it is essential for the Public Corporation to have a higher share value. The Corporation needs to focus on the growth of shareholders' wealth in order to continue its operations.
