What are the three core roles and responsibilities of strategic managers? Elaborate in 400 words or more
There are three core responsibilities that a strategic manager is taken with that we can attribute to being:
CREATING THE STRUCTURE AND THE FUNCTIONS OF THE COMPANY LIKE AN
ARCHITECT
A strategic manager is tasked with being the architect of the
company's structure and function. The structure provides the
outlook, and the functions give the “life force” of the company and
therefore, they help the organization realize its potential in a
way where anything it does adds value to the entire
implementation.
DESIGNING THE STRATEGIC PLAN AND MANAGEMENT PROCESSES
They take into account the needs of the organization, study its
characteristics, its key capabilities, functions as well as its
relative position in the market it operates based on the current
processes it has ongoing and its current portfolio value to bring a
better offering to the marketplace. The ability to respond to
competition comes from having a short term plan, a long term goal
and the ability to satisfy the stakeholders of the company, which
is why they have a central role in all the processes the company
conducts as part of its daily functions.
ALIGNING THE STRATEGY WITH THE MISSION AND THE VISION AS WELL AS
THE HRM STRATEGY
Formulating a strategy is one thing and being able to implement it
successfully is another. A strategic manager is therefore tasked
with aligning the approach to the company’s value, culture, its
mission, its vision as well as the scope they want to achieve with
their processes. Being able to bring all their services and
processes together requires that the strategic manager takes into
account the human currency of the company and therefore work
closely with the HR department of the company to bring about a
positive influence over the entire organization as a single unit
where the different segments add value to the system as a
whole.
The strategic manager is therefore tasked with bringing the entire
organization under a single function of creation of value by
bringing the structure and service closer to the actualized values.
They set the baseline values for evaluation of the company’s
performance, benchmark the current implementation and the future
return from the changes as well as perform the strategic function
of formulation, adaptation, implementation, monitoring, evaluating
and bringing a change to the plan, to always fit the needs
better.
