Based on the forensic sense, latent is defined as an impression that has been transferred from one surface to another. This is done for better testing and validation of the impression to fulfill various aspects in the field too. Latent is generally the first impression which is to be developed gradually. Transferring the finger print impression from one surface to another for better validation and verification is an example of latent being used in the forensic sense.
