Reaction of Iron 3 oxide with carbon monoxide is aa follows:

Fe2O3 + 3CO -----> 2Fe + 3CO2

Number of moles of Fe2O3:

156.8 g Fe2O3 × ( 1 mol Fe2O3 / 159.69 g Fe2O3)

= 0.982 mol Fe2O3

Number of moles of CO:

36.6 g CO × ( 1 mol CO / 28.01 g CO )

= 1.31 mol CO

Finding limiting reagent:

Number of moles of CO required to reacts with 0.982 mol Fe2O3

0.982 mol Fe2O3 × ( 3 mol CO / 1 mol Fe2O3)

= 2.95 mol CO

Number one moles of Fe2O3 required to reacts with 1.31 mol CO

1.31 mol CO × ( 1 mol Fe2CO3 / 3 mol CO)

= 0.437 mol Fe2O3

Hence, the limiting reactant is CO.

The amount of iron metal formed is,

1.31 mol CO × ( 2 mol Fe / 3 mol CO )× ( 55.85 g Fe / 1 mol Fe)

= 48.8 g Fe
