Understand the importance Social Marketing within the construct of Environmental Sustainability. Why do certain consumers perceive value in environmentalism? Does it affect
marketing strategies?
environmentalism can be seen as a social movement or an ideology focused on the welfare of the environment, environmentalism seeks to protect and conserve the elements of the earth's ecosystem. Environmentalism works to correct the damage as well as prevent future destruction, spawning numerous environmental groups in America and around the world
Environmentalism is an organized social movement seeking to minimize the harm done to the environment and quality of life by marketing practices. The first wave of modern environmentalism was driven by environmental groups and concerned consumers; the second wave was driven by the federal government, which passed laws and regulations governing industrial practices affecting the environment. The first two waves of environmentalism are now merging into a third and stronger wave, in which companies are accepting responsibility for doing no environmental harm
There are many customers of many organization which look to buy those products which do not harm the environment and ecology directly or indirectly. This is mainly due to the values carried by these customers towards the external environment. These customers are the promoters of environmentalism and try to protect the ecology from the negative impacts of the production and utilization of the products.
When this environment-friendly initiative is chosen by the company, it can also be seen as an act of promoting and protecting the environment. We all know that environmental protection is an integral part of corporate social responsibility. Each business has a carbon footprint resulting from its operations. Any initiative which is taken by the firm to reduce and control the carbon emission must be welcomed by society.
The value which is given to the environmental protection by the customers plays a significant role in the development of the marketing plans of the organization. If there is a substantial part of the customer base which is quite sensitive to the green products, then the company will be forced to include the gree advertising gree production and green products in its marketing plan.
This will force the organizations to focus and highlight the initiatives taken by them to promote the protection and safeguard of environment and ecology.
The main aim of presenting green advertisements is to present to the consumer that the company is eco-centric while at the same time making an effort to influence the purchase behavior of the consumers by presenting them with choices of availability of products which do not cause harm to the environment
Alert marketers view consumerism as an opportunity to serve consumers better by providing more consumer information, education, and protection. Environmental groups have improved conditions in many industries, including the meat and drug industries, and have helped pass legislation to protect the environment. The latest move is for companies to be proactive and take responsibility for not doing environmental harm. They are practicing environmental sustainability by developing strategies that both sustain the environment and produce profits for the company. Many companies have responded positively to consumerism and environmentalism as ways to create greater customer value and to strengthen customer relationships
