Since, generally it is found that elder person recall less number of words from a list than that of elder persons. Hence, we can say that recall of number of words depend on age of a person. Hence, recall of number of words is an dependent variable and age of persons is an independent variable.

Hence, the age variable would be best described as independent variable.
