Discuss how the results of the homogeneity of variance test are related to choice of t-test formula (pooled variances or separate variances).

I am taking a statistical methods for health care research class.

For two sample independent t test, first we have to check that the population variances are equal or not that is we have to check homogeneity of variance.

So we can use F test to check homogeneity of variance.

If population variances are equal then we use pooled t test.

If population variances are not equal then we use unpooled (separate) t test.
