Interest group refers to a group of people or organizations with common interest. The members of a particular interest group work towards benefiting their members. It may include corporations, charitable organizations, trade organizations etc. Some of them work towards changing the public policies that affect the general public and some of them work towards protecting the interests of a selected class. There are interest groups in many fields including health, education, political system, human rights and environment.

The function of the interest group is to represent their group and work towards achieving their group’s motives. They try to influence public policies and sometimes involve in policy creation. The strategies used by interest groups to influence public policies may include direct lobbying by trying to influence the legislative bodies through direct interaction with the legislators, educating the public, grassroots lobbying by direct interaction with the public and by involving in election activities.

National Society for Human Rights and Saudi Association for Civil and Political Rights are the two interest groups in Saudi Arabia. Both of them work in the area of human rights.
