Think carefully now, and think of the basic rocket equation… which of the two stages requires more fuel – the descent to the lunar surface, or the ascent back to lunar orbit?

The descent to lunar surface need more fuel as we carry more mass ( fuel for descending ) during descending .

But while ascent back to orbit mass of rocket will be less as fuel is spend during descending so less fuel will be used .
