Part 1: Air at 1 atm and 200° C occupies an initial volume Vi of 1000 cm3 in a cylinder. The air is confined by a piston which has a constant restraining force so that the gas pressure remains constant. Heat is added to the air until its temperature reaches 2600° C.

  1. Calculate the heat added
  2. Calculate the work done by the gas
  3. Calculate the change in internal energy of the gas

Part 2: An ideal gas is contained in a closed assembly with an initial pressure Pi of 220 kPA and initial temperature Ti of 70oC. If the volume of the system is increased to 1.5 times the initial volume and the temperature drops to 15o C, determine the final pressure of the gas.

Q-1 Air at 1 atm and 20 0C occupies an initial volume of 1000 cm3 in a cylinder. The air is confined by a piston which has a constant restraining force so that the gas pressure always remains constant. Heat is added to the air until its temperature reaches 260 0C. Calculate (a) the heat added (b) the work done by the gas, (c) the change in internal energy of the gas. Q-2 An ideal gas is contained in a...

A system of ideal gas has an initial pressure of 114 kPa and occupies a volume of 6.00 liters. Doubling the system’s absolute temperature by means of a constant-pressure process would require an amount of work W. Instead, you decide to double the absolute temperature by carrying out two processes in sequence, a constant-pressure process followed by a constant-volume process. In this case, the total work done in the two-process sequence is W/2. Calculate the final pressure of the system....
