Padimate O (M.W. 277.4 g/mol) is an ingredient in sunscreen lotion. In a procedure to assay Padimate O, the pharmaceutical scientist did the following: transfer 2 gram of sunscreen lotion to a 100-ml volumetric flask and add about 75 ml of isopropyl alcohol. Heat gently with swirling until the specimen is dispersed. Cool to room temperature and dilute to volume with isopropyl alcohol and mix. Pipet 10 ml of this solution into a 100-ml volumetric flask, dilute to volume with isopropyl alcohol and mix. This sample was then run on HPLC, where we found the concentration of Padimate O in that solution was 0.4 µmol/ml. Calculate the percent by weight of Padimate O in the sunscreen lotion.
