A cylindrical container with a movable piston initially holds 1.5 moles of gas at a pressure of 4.0 atmospheres and a volume of 2.5 liters. If the piston is moved to create a volume of 5.0 liters while simultaneously withdrawing 0.75 moles of gas, what is the final pressure if the temperature is constant?

Answer #1

summary:

For solving this type of problem, you must know following formula

P1×V1/n1 = P2×V2/n2   ( AT CONSTANT TEMPERATURE )

Where

P1 , V1 and n1 are initial pressure , volume and mole of gas respectively

P2, V2 and n2 are final pressure, volume and mole of gas respectively

Since we know P1 ,V1, n1, V2 and n2 .so we calculate value of P2 using above formula.

Answer = final pressure = 1.0 atmosphere

    A cylinder with a movable piston contains 17.5 moles of a monatomic ideal gas at a pressure of 1.66 × 105 Pa. The gas is initially at a temperature of 300 K. An electric heater adds 46600 J of energy into the gas while the piston moves in such a way that the pressure remains constant. It may help you to recall that CPCP = 20.79 J/K/mole for a monatomic ideal gas, and that the number of gas molecules is...
