Answer #1

Stanton presented Declaration of Sentiments during the Women’s Rights Convention in 1848 and it was modelled after the Declaration of Independence, demanding equal rights for women in education and employment. In a sense it’s also a War of Independence from their own men. Women were kept under the clutches of men with the help of socially constructed norms that were protected by religion and culture. For long, women were not given the right to education, employment and voting. They were treated like second class citizens in the society and at home. Women had to endure all that men did to them and considered only as child bearing machines. All these social constraints made few women come out and initiate the change. Soon, many joined and created that historical milestone. I think it’s one of the most important document that was brought out during a most important historical event which helped women gain their independence. Today, women are everywhere with equal rights.
