A composer would typically use a baroque cantatas based on a chorale tune. In some of them the tune reappears in different guises in each movement, sometimes in a fugue, sometimes as a ground-bass, sometimes as a simple variation. In others it only reappears at the end of the cantata, but the melodies of the other movements are based in some way, either melodically or rhythmically, on the chorale-tune.

A baroque cantata which was very representative of sacred music and Lutheran music chores represented Soulful music   in a typically chorale rendition. The Baroque cantata was a feature of composer Bach and the common feature being the inclusion of at least one piece for solo voice. Bach fused two types of cantatas -- the solo cantata with recitatives and arias and the chorale cantata with two or more movements based on chorale text -- to develop a new prototype for the church cantata.
