Why was it important to transition from MDGs(Millennium Development Goals) to SDGs(Sustainable Development Goals)?

• The SDGs are 17 global goals focusing on having a better and sustainable future.The goals include-no poverty,gender equality,quality education,clean water and sanitation,zero hunger etc.
• They were developed to succeed MDGs which ended in 2015.The MDGs were developed in 2000 which focused on tackling the indignity of poverty.The MDGS established measurable and universal goals to tackle poverty,hunger,expanding education to children etc.They did achieve certain of their goals in 15 years,reducing income poverty,access to clean water and sanitation,improving maternal health etc. They made huge successes in combatting HIV/AIDS and other treatable diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis.
• Even though MDGs left a successful legacy behind,but still there was a long way till all these goals were achieved completely around the world.The goals have been met halfway and that is why SDGs were needed for urgent call to shift the world onto building a more sustainable future.
• MDGs transitioned to SDGs to build commitment, to finish what was started and tackle all the immediate challenges facing the world.Especially climate change and depletion of natural resources,is the biggest challenge today.
• SDGs are more ambitious than MDGs in making sure no one is left behind. More importantly, they involve all of us to build a more sustainable and safer world for all humanity.
