Small-diameter, high-pressure liquid jets can be used to cut various materials as shown in the figure. If viscous effects are negligible, estimate the pressure (in bar) needed to produce a 0.10mm diameter water jet with a speed of 719 m/s.

Hints: Negligt the velocity inside the tube before the nozzle; take water density=1000 kg/m3; Don't forget to provide the pressure in bar units (1 bar=105N/m2).

A fireman standing on a 5.2 m high ladder operates a water hose with a round nozzle of diameter 1.43 inch. The lower end of the hose (5.2 m below the nozzle) is connected to the pump outlet of diameter 2.33 inch. The gauge pressure of the water at the pump is P(gauge) =P(abs) −P pump pump atm= 26.2 PSI = 180.643 kPa . Calculate the speed of the water jet emerg- ing from the nozzle. Assume that water is...

The figure shows a Venturi flow characterized by a a smooth contraction of the pipe diameter D, to a throat diameter D2. The Venturi flow meter is connected to a n-tube manometer at location A where the pipe diameter is D, and to the throat of the contraction at location E where the diameter is D2. Assuming that the density of the air inside the n-tube is negligible, use your knowledge on hydrostatics, continuity and Bernoulli equation to calculate the...

part a-d 2 A paint sprayer pumps air through a constriction in a 0.025- m diameter pipe, as shown in the figure. The flow causes the pressure in the constricted area to drop and paint rises up the feed tube and enters the air stream. The speed of the air stream in the 0.025-m diameter sections is 5.00 m/s. The density of the air is 1.29 kg/m3, and the density of the paint is 1200 kg/m3. We can treat the...

8-C) As shown below water is pumped and sprayed through a nozzle into the atmosphere at 20 m/s at an elevation 10 m above the reservoir surface. The mass flow rate is 40 kg/s and the volumetric flow rate is 0.040 m3/s. The large diameter inlet pipe total length is 50 m. The pump effidency is 65%. The longer smaller diameter pipe leaving the pump is 200 m in total length. The pipes have different diameters as indicated below. The...

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
