A Boot strap evaporative air refrigeration system is employed in an aero plane, moving with a Mach number of 1.5 to take 30 tonnes of refrigeration load of the cabin. The cooling air is taken from the main compressor at 5 bar and further compressed to 9 bar which is run by cooling turbine.

The following data may be used:

The ambient condition   0.52 bar,-13c , isentropic efficiencies of main compressor is 91% and secondary compressor is 82%. And turbine 80%respectively. Effectiveness of both heat exchangers 0.36, ramming efficiency 90%.The temperature of air air coming out of evaporator cooler is 1000c

The pressure and temperature maintained in the cabin is 1 bar 230c.

Find the (a) mass taken from the main compressor for cabin cooling.

(b) Power required to run the refrigerator system and (C) COP of the system.

In an aircraft cooling system, air enters the compressor at 1 bar and 4°C and is compressed to 3 bar with an isentropic efficiency of 72%. The compressed air is cooled in a heat exchanger at constant pressure to 55°C and expands in an expander to 1 bar with an isentropic efficiency of 78%. The low temperature air absorbs heat load of 3 tonnes of refrigeration at constant pressure before re- entering the compressor. The compressor is driven by the...

Fresh air at 3200 cfm, 41oC and 30% rh is mixed with recirculated air at 24oC and 50% rh. The mixed air stream temperature is 32oC. The mixed air stream is then cooled, dehumidified and reheated to 16oC and 40% rh. The cooling is provided with a multi-stage vapor compression refrigeration system using R717 as the working fluid. The evaporator temperature is 12oC less than the air temperature leaving the cooling coil and the condenser temperature is 12oC higher than...

    3. Consider a dual-loop cycle utilizing air as the working fluid is shown schematically in the figure below. Air enters the compressor at 1 bar and 4°C and is compressed to 3 bar. Part of the air exiting the compressor enters the refrigeration cycle and remaining enters the power cycle. The air supplied to the refrigeration cycle from the compressor is cooled to the 55°C at constant pressure in a heat exchanger and then expands in a turbine to 1...

5/An ammonia refrigeration system consists of two stages compressors, two cvaporators, flash intereooler and sub-cooler, heat exchanger and condenser. Ammonia vapor condenses in the condenser at 40 "C. The amount of liquid refrigerant goes to the low temperature evaporator is sub-cooled 10 °C in the liquid sub- cooler and another 10 °C in the liquid-vapor heat exchanger. Vapor leaves the low pressure evaporator saturated at -30 °C, and then it is superheated in the heat exchanger at the same pressure....
