address the following information as it relates to diversity in the workforce:
The customs and values of 2 of the largest minority
races or religions in the workforce (e.g., the dramatic increase in
the Hispanic and Muslim percentage of the workforce)
The need for sensitivity to their differing values and
customs
Legislation affecting supervisor regulations relating
to these groups
The tolerance, sensitivity and acceptance are some of the factors that needs to be taken into account when dealing with diverse workforce which has higher population of some minorities which are more influenced by their religion and cultural aspects than others. The workers from other backgrounds need to be educated about the specific factors which are associated with these minorities, and to be easy and tolerant with some of their religious practices, which might include certain dressing, eating or other habits mandated by religion. These minority employees should also be trained to have tolerance, respect and sensitivity for other cultural / ethnic and religious groups, so as to create and maintain amicable work environment. Still, the boundaries of religious freedom must also be defined while being within the applicable laws, to ensure that the others are not offended by the actions.
The constitution makes it illegal to discriminate against some employees on the grounds of their religion. The first amendment grants all citiens to exercise their religious freedom. The employer needs to see that these groups are allowed to practice their customs according to their religion, while complying with other legal obligations. However, it should also be kept in mind that such freedom does not cause undue hardhip for the employer.
