  • Homeostasis is the ability to maintain balance between internal and external environment.
  • When external environment changes, the body tries to maintain the balance by physiological responses from  the internal environment.



Rise in body temperature :

  • An increase in the body temperature is a stimulus that is sensed by the thermoreceptors in the skin. Thermoreceotors sends the information regarding the stimulus to the control center via afferent pathway. This is known as input. Control center is the thermoregulatory center in brain called hypothalamus. Control center interprets the information sends an output to the effectors via efferent pathway.Sweat glands are the effectors. In response, sweat gland increases sweat production. Evaporation of sweat leads to cooling of body surface. As a result, body temperature falls to normal. Hence, homeostasis is acheived.
