Answer #1

Immediate decisions about production are based on relevant costs that is the costs that would be affected (increase or decrease) by the decision. In most cases, relevant costs are the variable costs of production. Fixed costs are usually considered to be irrelevant in short-term decisions because they do not get affected. Therefore, short-term and immediate decisions about production require the costs to be categorized into fixed and variable categories so that relevant costs can be ascertained. This is only possible under variable costing. Thus, variable costing facilitates immediate decisions about production and so it becomes more valuable for this purpose.
