Is a firm responsible for its supply chain? If so, how far does that responsibility extend—to immediate suppliers, the suppliers' suppliers, or beyond? Illustrate your response using a specific Canadian company.

In my opinion, yes a firm is definitely responsible for it's supply chain. This supply chain is extended to not even the suppliers' suppliers but beyond. This is because a supply chain by definition means the product cycle right from the raw materials till the final delivery to the customer. This encompasses the company's direct suppliers, contractors, sub contractors, clients etc.
For example, Magna International is one such company which has its entire supply chain network very well worked out and has an elaborate network of suppliers and customers which encompasses raw material suppliers, contractors, distributors, customers etc. It procures the raw materials required to manufacture auto components from it's network of suppliers, contractors and sub contractors and it's supply chain extends well beyond it's suppliers' suppliers.
