Ans) Initially Mexicans migrated to Chicago before the beginning of the 20th Century. By the mid 1910s, first significant existence of the Mexican immigrantz was felt in Chicago. The immigrants mostly consisted of the men working in semiskilled and unskilled jobs. By the time it was 1960, a huge number of 23,000 Chicagoans were born in Mexico, which in the 70s rose to 47,397, thus making Chicago the fourth largest city consisting of the latin population.

In the 1990s the percentage of Mexicans in the City of Chicago increased by almost 50%, of what it was earlier. As per the 2000 U.S. Census there were 786,000 residents having Mexican origin, making it the largest latin population in the United States. As per the recent studies, although a huge number of latino ethnic groups are available in Chicago, the political representation of the Mexicans Is extremely less in comparison to the Chicago's Puerto Ricans.
