Planning is definitely valuable, but what examples of emergent or unrealized strategies have you seen, and why did companies alter their plans? Was it for good reason?
1.Let me take the example of David McConnell"s business.
EXAMPLES OF EMERGENT STRATEGY
First of all, David had a keen desire to sell his books as a writer. Since his books didn't get sales he tried to introduce a gimmick by adding perfume with the books. This was his intended strategy. EMERGENT strategy is where he came to understand that people bought his perfume and were interested rather than his books.
UNREALIZED STRATEGY
David McConnell believed that his books would be sold and he would become a famous writer. Actually this realized strategy failed (unrealized strategy) and therefore the selling of perfumes along with the books achieved greater profit which finally became a realized strategy.
2.Companies alter their plans so that they may lay strong foundation for their business.Sometimes they need to alter their tactical plans which are short term plans in order sustain their market. Carefully analyzing the SWOT is very important. They need to be updated about the competition in the markets and should set a firm plan to fight against their competitors.
3. Yes, of course for good reasons alter the plan is essential to achieve good profits.
