Area Measurements: In this method, geoscientists measure the perimeter of the glacier by using GPS receivers of high resolution.

Repeat Photography: In this method, image points are created and established on a 5-year interval unless there is a dramatic variation that appeared.

Hydrology Measurements: In this method, the outflow streams from the glaciers are measured all over the melting season and it is compared to the streams from basins with no glaciers.
Remote Sensing:
The glaciers are nowadays monitored through satellite imagery and digital aerial imagery. In this method, the perimeter of the glacier is measure in the late summer season because seasonal snow has disappeared and the extent of glaciers is revealed.
