Cognitive psychology is the study of all the processes underlying mental events. It can also be defined as a study of understanding how we perceive various information, how we understand those information, how we start thinking and how are thoughts are affected by those information and finally how we respond to those information in terms of our thoughts.
There are various important things to be learned in cognitive psychology, but according to me the two most important parts are of Attention and Memory.
Attention is the process dealing with direction of consciousness towards something. Thus, through attention we become aware of something and everything in this world. Attention makes us live in the moment, helps us in understanding the world and helps us in being cautious and careful in life. Whatever we need to achieve in life, requires us to give full attention to the required paths to be followed to achieve that. Thus, without attention quite about every daily activities would have failed. Attention is also the primary requisite for memorising something and Memory is the second most important thing to learn in cognitive psychology according to me.
Memory can be referred to the storage of information and retrieval of it at times of need. We need our memory to work correctly in about every sphere of life. Its our memory which makes us brush our teeth correctly in the morning by making us remember the way to do it and where we have kept our brush and toothpaste. Memory makes us remember our identity, our work status and what we were supposed to do in the day and day after. A person with memory problems is in a blank state and have nothing to refer to from his own arsenal at times of need.
Through the studies of cognitive psychology, we can use the knowledge about which factors determine better attention and utilise them in our life to be aware of most things happening around us. We can also learn about memorising techniques and ways in which memory storage gets better and there are better chances of retrieval. Thus, through these learnings, we can access the full potential of our cognition and learn and memorise things properly so that we can retrieve them at times of need.
