1. Goldwater explains that America has become ridden with violence, corruption in office, aimlessness, anxiety, and despair (also, collectivism and communism). He claims that men are drawn by greed to turn the highest levels of public service into mere personal opportunity

2. He claims that freedom is made orderly for the Nation by the constitutional government, limited by "nature and nature's God." He goes on to say that freedom is balanced so that order, lacking liberty, won’t "become a slave to the prison cell," and that liberty, lacking order, will not license the mob and the jungle. He means that freedom should be balanced so that chaos, whether of order or of abused liberty, does not ensue.
