An important feature or property of amide is that it have antibacterial property. Antibacterial property of amide includes the ability to kill or to prevent the growth of bacteria. The mechanism involves the action in the cell membrane and which disrupts the electron transport and oxidative phosphorylation. Usually amides are basic in nature and amide linkages are planar in nature. The major application of the anti-bacterial action is such that amide can be used for the attack against pathogens. These properties of amides are used to analyze gram positive and gram negative bacteria.
