At the scene of an accident, skid marks from a car coming to a stop are measured as 23.5m long. The posted speed limit is 45 mph and you need to brake on a downhill section of a road which makes angle θ with the horizontal.

Find the force in the direction of your displacement. (final answer does not contain normal force). Also, use the Work-Energy Theorem with this force to find the distance required to come to a complete stop.

When examining the scene of an accident involving two cars, investigators measure 73-m-long skid marks of one of the cars, which nearly came to a stop before colliding. The coefficient of kinetic friction between rubber and the pavement is about 0.90. Estimate the initial speed of that car assuming a level road.

This Question: 1 pt Skid mark analysis is one way to estimate the speed a car was traveling prior to an accident. The speed, that the vehicle was traveling in mies per hour can be approximated by the formula 330df, where d represents the length of the skid marks in feet and represents the drag factor of the road. A vehicle that was involved in an accident on an asphalt road was traveling ata speed of 75 mph when it...

You’re an accident investigator at a scene where a drunk driver in a 2300 kg car has plowed into a 1200 kg parked car with its brake set. You measure skid marks showing that the combined wreckage moved 24 m before stopping, and you determine a frictional coefficient of 0.68. What do you report for the drunk driver’s speed just before the collision?

Insurance claim. Your friend has just been in a car wreck and is trying to get the insurance company of the other driver to pay for fixing her car. She believes that she was driving within the speed limit and the other driver was speeding, and so the accident was the other driver's fault. She hopes that you can use your command of physics to prove her conjecture. She takes you out to the scene and describes what happened. She...
