Which of these peptides has the highest total number of ionizable groups?
A. KFYV
B. ERSC
C. PIMF
explain it further by indicating the total number of ionizable groups for each of the peptides. Thanks!
Answer: B (ERSC)
Here I have ignored the C- terminal and N- terminal groups which
are ionizable and this will be equal to 2 for every peptide (one is
NH3+ and the other one is COOH-). I have only counted the ionizable
side chains. If you want to consider the ionizable terminal group
you can add 2 to the number of ionizable groups that I have
calculated below for each of the peptides but the answer will be
the same.
