A 3 kg, 6 m long rod is supported on a knife edge at its midpoint. A 7.4 kg ball of clay is dropped from rest from a height of 6.5 m and makes a perfectly inelastic collision with the rod 0.6 m from the point of support. Find the magnitude of the angular momentum of the rod and clay system about the point of support immediately after the inelastic collision. The acceleration of gravity is 9.81 m/s 2 . Answer in units of J · s.

how do I prove Lf = L/2*mv? A thin rod of mass M and length L is struck at one end by a ball of clay of mass in, moving with speed v as shown in the figure. The ball sticks to the rod. Determine the angular momentum of the clay-rod system about A (the midpoint of the rod) after the collision.

The top edge of a thin rectangular metal plate with a mass of 2.80 kg is attached to a horizontal rod parallel to the edge of the plate. The plate hangs from this rod and is free to rotate about it without friction. The vertical height of the plate is 45.0 cm. The plate is pulled to the right until it makes an angle of 28.0° from vertical and then released from rest. At the same time, a piece of...

A uniform rod with a mass m and length L has one end attached to a pivot. The rod swings around on a frictionless horizontal table with angular speed wo. A ball with mass m (so same mass as the rod) is placed on the table a distance d from the pivot. The ball is made of clay so when the rod strikes it, the ball sticks to the rod (i.e., inelastic collision). If the final (post-collision) angular velocity of...
