Assume you were joining a company as a new employee. What steps would you take to determine the source of power within the organization? Of French and Raven's five forms of power, which do you consider the most important source of power and why? How would you use this information for your benefit in performing the duties of your job?
When we join a company as new employees, we see different types of people in the organization and thus w come across different kinds of powers as well. To determine the source of power within the organization, the first thing that should be done is to understand the flow of power in the organization, that will depend upon the structure of the organization, how the chain goes on and how everyone comes as an entity in the end. The chain of command, for an instance, is one of the ways to understand the source of power as well and after realizing the same, it is necessary to find out where we come in when all this power is there.
Of the French and Raven model, I consider the Legitimate power as the most important source of power and other forms of power such as coercive power is outright wrong and other forms of power don't exert the required kind of pus that a positive power should do for the benefit of the organization. Now this information is something that is used by us in the organization to do our job effectively and efficiently as after having this information, we understand the flow and of the organization and if we work hard, we realize that we can have the same kind of power as well, and to achieve that ower, we try to do the best we can and perform our jobs well.
