Data Mining Question:
What are concept hierarchies? Why are concept hierarchies useful in data mining and Give an example a concept hierarchy (5pts). (typed paragraph form please)
Concept heirarchy is used to define mapping from lower level to higher level
Concept heirarchy is used in OLAP , to analyse data in various heirarchies.
For example :
Sales data can be analysed based on cities, based on state , based on country.
It enables to analyse data in any of the level, like citywise, statewise, country wise.
Hieirarchy of location is given as follows:
Level 0: Area lower level:
Level 1: City
Level2: State
Level3: country higher level
Concept heirarchies allow us to group income of various customers: It allows to analyse the customer purchase patterns from lower level to higher level.
lower income group : income less than 50000
Middle income group : income above 50000 to 100000
Higher income group :income above 100000
