In the movie “ Indiana Jones Raiders of the lost Ark “, Jones replaces a gold statuette with a bad of sand. If the densities of gold and sand are 19.3 g/mL and 2.00 g/mL, respectively, what volume of sand would be needed to NOT trigger the trap? ( the trap is triggered by a chance in mass). The statuette appeared to have a volume of 350 mL. Use factor label to answer this question.

Answer #1

volume of gold = 350 mL

we need to calculate the volume of sand

use:

volume of sand = mass of sand / density of sand

Since mass of sand and gold should be same,

volume of sand = mass of gold / density of sand

volume of sand = density of gold * volume of gold / density of sand

volume of sand = 19.3 * 350 / 2.00

= 3.38*10^3 mL

Answer: 3.38*10^3 mL

    6) In the movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark", our hero Indiana Jones needs to outrun a giant spherical boulder that rolls downhill towards him. Assume the sphere is uniform. has mass M and radius R and starts from rest at the top of an incline of angle 8. It rolls without slipping, and its center of mass drops a vertical distance h. a) Derive an expression for the velocity of the sphere at the bottom in terms of g...

Indiana Jones is in a temple searching for artifacts. He finds a gold sphere with a radius of 2 cm sitting on a pressure sensitive plate. To avoid triggering the pressure plate, he must replace the gold with something of equal mass. The density of gold is 19.3 -103 kg/m3, and the volume of a sphere is V = 4/3 Ar3. Indy has a bag of sand with a density of 1,602 kg/m3. (A) What volume of sand must he...
