The command to restore a slashed backup of a Cisco IOS File is as follows:

  • tftpdnld:
    • The above command is used to download the IOS file via TFTP. It is to be used for disaster recovery and only to recover the data when required.
    • There are certain attributes to the command which must be used to execute the command. They are as follows:
      • IP_ADDRESS: This is to be used when one needs to assign a temporary address to the router.
      • IP_SUBNET_MASK: This is to be used when the subnet is to be matched with the subnet of the TFTP Servers.
      • DEFAULT_GATEWAY: This is to be used when the IP address for the TFTP servers.
      • TFTP_SERVER: It is to be used when one knows the IP address of the TFTP server.
      • TFTP_FILE: It is to be used in the command when one knows the exact name of the IOS file which is to be restored and remember the case is sensitive for the file name.
      • TFTP_CHECKSUM: This is to be used while one needs to prevent the checksum errors with the earlier versions of the boot ROMs.
