Amorphous metals can be made into foams by bubbling gas through the viscous, liquid alloy; as the metal cools, its viscosity increases greatly, producing a rigid mass. Alternatively, the amorphous metal can be “foamed” by melt infiltration into hollow C spheres. These processes produce highly porous metals (in some cases up to 99% porosity). Describe three practical uses for such a foamed metal.
Examples of metal foam are as follows.
1. The metal foam is found in frame or structure of some cars. Because of this foam the height is get saved.and also it will add strength on it. the main purpose of this foam is to provide safety in accident or in crash of cars.
2. Crumple zones. is another example of metal foam. In this effectiveness increased. And reduce the weight .when the train crashes the foam structure at front of train which absorb the impacts and helps drivers and passengers to protect from accident.
3. Pot Handle . Is example of metal foam is low thermal conductivity of metal foam.the metal foam is used in kitchen pots and pans.beacuse foam conduct heat slowly, and having low thermal conductivity of metal.and dissipate heat through air filled pores.
