Aligning the strategic IT Plans with a firm’s strategic business plan has been cited as a pre-requisite for successful harmony in IT Planning: This is the correct statement that the IT strategic planning needs to align with respect to the business’s strategic planning, so that one can see that IT strategically matches with the Business’s strategic plan and IT planning is enabling the business plans. The aim of IT planning is to support the business plan. Thus the IT plan exists for the Business plan only. Hence in this relation the IT strategic plans needs to be aligned with the Business strategic plan, because the organization wants to achieve their business plans with the help of IT and all other functional plans. The role of all the functional plans is to contribute to achieve the business plan. Hence strategically all functional strategical plans should aligned with respect to the business strategical plans.
A model that allows a firm to measure the maturity of alignment between the two i.e. business strategic plan and IT strategic plan will be such that IT strategic plan should reflect to the business strategic plan and the aim of execution of the IT strategic plan is to ensure that meets the business IT goal strategically.
