Show equations for obtaining the average real power P and the average reactive power Q based on the three-wattmeter measurements P1 , P2 , and P3 P, 2 P , and 3 P as well as the voltage and current measurements Vl-l and Irms. With this information, is it possible to determine the sign of the reactive power (and thus the power factor of the load).

Answer #1

We can determine angle of power factor that will have sign positive or negative (as per calculation from angle equation )

Accordingly , we can tell leading or lagging nature of load and so we can tell sign of reactive power

Simultaneously we can find power factor of load using equation of cos as shown above !!
