Let us first understand the meaning of the term ethics which says, "Ethics in general terms means the moral principles that governs the actions and behaviour of a person or any individual."

The term Business Ethics means, "Business Ethics realties to the morals and principles to be followed in a business to maintain a healthy working business environment."

Business Ethics is a form of applied ethics or professional ethics that examines the ethical principles and morals that guides a person. It also resolves the ethical problems that arise in the business environment. It can be applied to all aspects of the business environment.

These ethics arises or originate from individuals, organisation morals or from the legal systems. these norms, values, ethical, and unethical practices becomes the principles of an organisation.Business Ethics have two dimension that are Normative business Ethics and Descriptive Business Ethics. As a corporate practices and career specialisation, the field is normative. Academics attempting to understand business behaviour employ descriptive methods.

Interest in business ethics dramatically or came into existence in 1980's and 1990's both within major corporation and academia.

History

business ethics reflects the norms of each historical period. As time passes, norms evolve, causing accepted behaviours to become objectionable. It evolved as per the actions and behaviours as shown by the people in an organisation. The term 'business ethics' came into common use in the Unites States in the early 1970's. By the mid 1980's at least 500 courses in the business ethics were reaches to about 40000 students, who used twenty text books, ten case books from the professionals, societies, cases and journals at that time. The Society of Business Ethics was founded in 1980. European business schools adopted the concept of business ethics after 1987 commencing with European Business Ethics Network.

Firms began highlighting the concept of business ethics by highlighting their ethical stature in the late 1980's and 1990's, possibly to distance themselves from the day to day business problems and business scandals such as savings and loan crisis.

Philosophy

Ethics and moral philosophy is the branch of philosophy that involves systemising, defending and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct. the field of ethics with the field of aesthetics, concerns matter. of values, and thus the concept of philosophy is called as axiology.

Ethics in philosophy evolved from the concept of good and bad, god and evil, right and wrong, virtue and vice, justice and crime.Ethics defines these concepts of human morality. As a field of, intellectual inquiry, moral philosophy also relates to the field of moral psychology descriptive ethics and value theory.

Three major areas of ethics in today's business environment are:

Meta Ethics, concerning the theoritical meaning and reference of moral propositions, and how their truth values can be determined.

Normative Ethics, concerning the practical means of determining a moral course of action.

Applied Ethics, concerning what the person is obligated to do in a specific or particular situation or domain of actions.
