a. What is the Dual Ladder? b. How does it benefit the employee? c. How does it benefit the company?
a) Dual Ladder -
It refers to the method of adopting a model that consist of a dual career that is Managerial and Professional/Technical pathways. Under this the employees have two option for their career progression firstly to adopt a managerial role and secondly to recognize the technical role. The ones who chose managerial side will start focusing on the administrative and leadership work whereas the ones who chose the technical side continue to focus their efforts on innovation and dealing with complex and important technical tasks.
b) Benefits to Employees -
It helps the technical professionals to grow in the organizations who do not have the desire or skills to move into management positions, but want the rewards typically associated with management positions such as pay and benefits. It has been noticed that technical professionals have a strong drive for achievement but may lack interpersonal skills, leadership, strategic thinking ability, and fear technical obsolescence hence if a company only gives value to such attributes then the technical professional will lose his interest in the current organization. But with the introduction of the dual ladder the employees are happy and have become more efficient in their work.
c) Benefits to Companies -
Company’s success is now largely driven by its ability to maintain a sustained competitive advantage even in the toughest, most volatile economic times. They may at a down point in the market can think of doing away with managerial roles but without the technical professionals it is impossible to achieve competitive success which depends increasingly on technological innovation and operational efficiency. Hence by not overlooking technical skills of an individual at the expense of managerial skills the companies can be benefited by giving technical ladder option as well to the employees.
