ISO 9000 is one of the world's most widely recognized standards. ISO 9000 is a quality management standard which provides guidelines for improving business efficiency and customer satisfaction. ISO 9000's aim is to integrate an organization's quality management system, increase productivity, reduce unnecessary costs, and ensure process and product quality ISO 9001 applies to companies and organisations in all fields. The process-oriented approach also makes the service organizations principle relevant. The general guidelines provide the versatility required for the complex business world of today.

ISO 9000 is set up as a collection of guidelines to help establish, maintain and enhance a quality management system for a company. It is important to emphasize that ISO 9000 is not a rigid set of requirements and that organizations have flexibility in how their quality management system is implemented. This freedom makes it possible to use the ISO 9000 standard in a wide variety of organizations and in large and small businesses.

The importance of quality is the ISO 9000. Many businesses offer products and services, but it is those businesses that are successful in producing the best products and services. An company can define the root of the problem with ISO 9000 and thus find a solution. It is possible to maximize profit by improving efficiency. A supply chain with integrity is created as a wide range of companies implement the ISO 9000 standards. Any business involved in the development, manufacturing and marketing process of a product knows that it is part of an internationally known, reliable system.

As stated earlier, the consumer is a business' primary focus. Through identifying and responding to customer needs, a company can better target key demographics and thus increase revenue through providing the products and services that the customer seeks. For customer needs information, resources can be accurately and efficiently distributed. Most importantly, the consumer can appreciate the commitment of a company and build customer loyalty. Yet customer loyalty is the practice of returning.
