In optimizing a network for throughput, there is a tradeoff between large and small sized frames. What is the tradeoff? Are large frame sizes better than small frame sizes?

If a received frame contains some error than it must be retransmitted in order to get the right frame. And if the frame size is big than the transmission cost increases but if it is small the transmission cost is low. Suppose you are sending a file as a one packet and if a single bit is lost than you have to send the entire file again but if you divide it in small packets than you will have to send only that small packet which contains error. Therefore, there is a trade-off between small and large frames. While small frames are less efficient but low probability of containing an error and it cost less to retransmit if there occurs some error inside the frame.
