Google analytics is a clickstream analytics tool from Google. It records the various user interactions on a web page and can be used to dig up insights on user behavior, purchase behavior, website performance, A/B analysis and more. Overall Google analytics helps website owners and caretakers to analyze various different data about the website.

There are several benefits of using Google analytics. They are

  • It is easy to use and plenty of help and documentations are available (from Google and third parties)
  • Free to begin with and the free version works for most of the organizations
  • Can be customized to various degrees and can suit different types of websites

There are some drawbacks as well. They are

  • It is quite generic and often becomes target of spam click counts
  • The paid version is extremely expensive starting upwards of $150,000 per year
  • Comparatively a generic tool when seen beside specialty tools such as Omniture, Mousclick, Woopra, etc.
