The genotype is what you are based on your genes only such as the colour of your skin. But phenotype refers to some characteristics that are both depended on the genes and environment. Our genetic make-up helps us to grow and develp while our environmental influences such as our diet, stress, exercises, etc affect our growth in many possible ways. The phenotypic plasticity is defined as the degree to which our phenotype is affected by our genotype. If the environmental influences are more than our genetic traits then we can say that we have high phenotypic plasticity. So in this way genotype(genetic traits or nature) and phenotype (Nurture or environmental influences) are related to each other in the debate.
Briefly describe the nature versus nurture debate as you understand it. What is more important nature or nurture? Why? How do you know one is more important?
There has long been debate about the importance of “nature vs. nurture”. Is how we turn out (successful or not, fit or not, addicted or not) determined entirely by our genes (genetic determinism) or is our environment more important (the nurture part of nature vs. nurture)? How does our genetic make-up interact with our environment? (In your answer you should include a discussion of epigenetics and how it is at the intersection of “nature vs. nurture”). Nature/nurture debate within psychology is concerned with the extent to which particular aspects of behavior are a product of either inherited (genetic) or acquired (learned) characteristics. Bandura's (1977) social learning theory states that aggression is learned from the environment through observation and imitation (nurture). He concludes this, in part, from the results of his famous Bobo doll experiment (Bandura, 1961). Review the Bobo experiment here,...

This debate is simply referred to as the 'Nature vs. Nurture' debate. The side of nature is what we are studying in this course, the biological influences and genetics that we come into this world with (what mom and dad gave us). The nuture side of things is simply the experiences we have in life,...
