You are the person in charge of shipping the finished product for your company. Your clients are mainly overseas and buy in large quantities. You need to determine which type of container is the best for your shipments.
You have calculated that your products have an average density of 40 lbs/cu ft.
You have narrowed down your choices to three types of containers: 1) 20’ general purpose container
2) 40’ general purpose container
3) 40’ high cube general purpose container.
Answer the following questions for each type of container listed above and show all the math using two decimal places so that the marker can give you partial marks even if your final answer is incorrect.
1. What are the volume capacities measured in cubic feet?
2. What are the maximum payload capacities?
3. What are the maximum density capacities? E.g.: If I use the total volume of the container,
what is the maximum density of the product I can fill this container with and still not
exceed the maximum payload?
4. What is the best choice of these three containers for my product?
5. Explain why your choice is the best for a product with a density of 40 lbs/cu ft.
6. If the average density of your product is only 24 lbs per cu ft, which is the best choice?
7. Explain why your choice is the best for a product with a density of 24 lbs/cu ft.

4. Best Choice

Desired products have an average density of 40 lbs/ cu ft.

Concerning answer from question 3, the best choice would be 20 ft general-purpose container having max density capacities of 47.04 lbs/ cu ft.

5. We have to use the best container for shipping product having a density of 40 lbs/ cu ft. Based on the assessment done earlier, 20 ft general-purpose container have maximum density capacity of 47.04 lbs/ cu ft. That means higher than the required density capacity. Hence, to comply with regulations and considering container capacity constraints, 20 ft general-purpose container is the best choice.

6. Best Choice would be ‘40 ft general-purpose container’ (prioritizing max payload capacity over volume capacity)

7. Best choice for the product if the average density is only 24 lbs per cu ft can be ‘40 ft general-purpose container’ or ‘40 ft high cube general purpose container’. Here, the former one has higher maximum payload capacity. If we priorities max payload capacity over max volume capacity, the best choice would be ‘40 ft general-purpose container’.
