HW10: Power Analysis and Sample size
INSTRUCTIONS: Please find the sample size that would allow the graduate student below to draw a conclusion with 95% confidence and a power level of 0.85.
Scenario: A graduate student has administered a pro-inflammatory substance, lipopolysaccharide (LPS), to humans in the form of a pill (2 doses – 0mg or placebo and 15mg; n=35 patients per group). She then determines the blood concentration (in pg/ml) of a particular protein that is known to be upregulated due to LPS called Inflammotin using ELISA (hint: pick the correct test – remember the power table depends on the alpha value and the test type). The effect size (difference in population means) she would like to detect is 70 pg/ml of Inflammotin and the population standard deviation (estimated from a pilot study) for both groups is 100 pg/ml of Inflammotin.

Pg 417 6.47 For a hypothesis test H0: p = 0.3 Ha: p < 0.3 a random sample of size n 200 is taken and the sample proportion p = 0.21 (a) Determine whether it is appropriate to use the normal distribution to estimate the p-value. (b) If it is appropriate to use a normal distribution, complete the test for a significance level of 5% Pg 418 6.55 Home Field in Baseball 2009 There were 2430 Major League Baseball games played in 2009, and the home team won the...

An IQ test is designed so that the mean is 100 and the standard deviation is 21 for the population of normal adults. Find the sample size necessary to estimate the mean IQ score of statistics students such that it can be said with 95% confidence that the sample mean is within 7 IQ points of the true mean Assume a :21 and determine the required sample size using...
Using the dataset that you used for the midterm (Find it on the Blackboard), do the following: 1) (4 points) Submit the values for items a to e in the table below: mean, sample size, standard deviation, and 95% confidence interval for mean. (SPSS Command: Analyze/Descriptive Statistics/Explore) Variable Statistic Height Mean 71.2 Sample Size N 999 Standard Deviation 2.913 95% Confidence Interval for Mean Lower Bound 71.02 Upper Bound 71.38 2) (4 points) Assume that you want to test whether...
1. In a study of speed dating, male subjects were asked to rate the attractiveness of their female dates, and a sample of the results is listed below (1equals=not attractive; 10equals=extremely attractive). Construct a confidence interval using a 99% confidence level. What do the results tell about the mean attractiveness ratings of the population of all adult females? 6, 8, 1, 10, 7, 5, 8, 9, 7, 10, 3, 9 What is the confidence interval for the population mean muμ?...
9. A group of statistics students decided to conduct a survey at their university to find the average (mean) amount of time students spent studying per week. Assuming a population standard deviation of three hours, what is the required sample size if the error should be less than a half hour with a 99% level of confidence? 10.University officials say that at least 70% of the voting student population supports a fee increase. If the 95% confidence interval estimating the...
Find the sample size, n, needed to estimate the percentage of adults who have consulted fortune tellers. Use a 0.04 margin of error, use a confidence level of 98% and use results from a prior poll suggesting that 11% of adults have consulted fortune tellers. A student wants to estimate the mean score of all college students for a particular exam. First use the range rule of thumb to make a rough estimate of the standard deviation of those scores....

20) statistics students must be t ssume that we want to estimate the mean 10 score for the pogaoe that the sample mean is within statistics shudents. How many 95% confidence that the sample mean ts within andomly selected for 10 tests if we want 2 10 points of the population mean? Note that 10 tests are typicalls standard devintion is 15 error Ey? Answer the following question
A journal article reports that a sample of size 5 was used as a basis for calculating a 95% CI for the true average natural frequency (Hz) of delaminated beams of a certain type. The resulting interval was (230.061, 233.807). You decide that a confidence level of 99% is more appropriate than the 95% level used. What are the limits of the 99% interval? (Hint: Use the center of the interval and its width to determine...

2. (25 points) Suppose that we have a sample of size n 64, we know the population standard deviation is σ 48, and we are considering a normally distributed population, we want to test the hypotheses: Ho : μ-200 Hi 200 We are going to use a z-test because σ is known. We will use a significance level of:-0.05. (a) What is the critica z value? In other words,...
