= 1.65 Ǻ, SO42- = 2.44 Ǻ. (Ca(NO3)2 = rutile structure, CaSO4 = sodium chloride structure)

Answer: In case of calcium sulfate the ions are tightly bounded to each other which restricts the water to separate them. As, in rutile structure the coordination number of cation is six but the coordination number of anion is 3 while in case of NaCl structure the coordination number is 6 for both cations and anions which makes it strong to be separated by water.
