Given the capabilities in biotechnology we have today, it is possible to implement a national DNA identification card.
What impact do you think a national DNA identification card would have on the criminal justice system?
On what basis could such a system be interpreted as a violation of the Fourth Amendment?
Should the U.S. use such a system? Why or why not?
Technology has grown to a great extent that people have started using DNA identification because DNA is one element that cannot be copied as it is unique to each person. This means everyone’s identity would be saved in a database but the challenge would be to keep it safe as people may use technology to hack the database and steal the entire data in order to use it for illegal purposes. Terrorists and other criminals would use all the legal and illegal means to obtain a legal ID card. ID cards with DNA would only group people based on race and ethnicity that would further the discriminatory practices that would stir tensions between the races and groups. These ID cards would allow the government to monitor the movements of the citizens thus violating the 4thamendment that guarantees privacy, security and freedom.

For example, should people with genes that predispose them to violence receive different sentences if they engage in crime? Alternatively, should genetic information be used to pre-emptively identify potential killers or other predisposed to violence? Is it...
