Answer #1

The cost of basic needs of poverty is the method to measure absolute poverty in developing countries where the accessibility of basic human needs like food, shelter, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities, health, education and information etc are considered to draw the poverty line. The poverty line demarcates the minimum income that people require to sustain in a country and enjoy their basic human needs. People whose income fall below the poverty line are considered as poor. This method considers 2100 calorie as minimum food intake per person per day for adequate nutrition. The food intake capacity is used to measure poverty line when other price information related to basic needs are not available. Food intake method is calculated by measuring the expenditure against per capita consumption to find out whether people are having required amount of food or not.
