He has heard from others that the organization he will be working in has a highly political environment and that he needs to be careful. What advice would you give him about how to best manage himself in terms of power and politics in his organization?

Following suggestions would be handy while dealing with political situations and people in the organisation.

(a) He must observe the things for first few days to know the environment better without having any pre occupations.

(b) He must not be aligned to any of the rival groups and assume a neutral approach, before he knows the environment inside out.

(c) He should listen to everyone's views but when it comes to decision making, rely on his conscience.

(d) He should refrain from criticising anyone or making a political statement about an individual or system.

(e) He should exercise due economy of words while speaking with someone, refrain from being too much expressive and should avoid sensitive topics.

(f) he should learn to put forward his point, politely, yet firmly, if he believes that he is taken for granted.

(g) Beware of the people who would like to take advantage of the situation and stay clear of them.

(h) Be diplomatic in responses, so as not to offend any party to be in good books of people.
